Job Title: Director of Performance and Business Management

GCL: F

Introduction to role:

Are you ready to turn strategy into measurable outcomes that accelerate a data-powered enterprise? This role develops how we plan, measure, and guide one of AstraZeneca’s most critical global capabilities. It ensures ambitious ambitions turn into clear results that benefit individuals and the business. ness.

As Director of Performance and Business Management, you will lead the performance framework, scorecards and executive insight that guide the Global Data Office (GDO), while building the operating rhythm and business management disciplines that keep delivery sharp and accountable. With a focus split roughly 60% on performance management and insight and 40% on business management and operating effectiveness, you will give leaders the clarity to act with confidence—on outcomes, risks and value. Can you create the management system that turns strategy into disciplined execution across a sophisticated, global matrix?

You will report to the Senior Director, Data Strategy and Performance and work closely with GDO leaders, enterprise partners and service owners to align strategic priorities with operational execution. Your impact will be felt in the everyday decisions leaders make, the speed at which we move, and the value we deliver across the enterprise.

Accountabilities:

Performance Framework Leadership: Convert strategy into quantifiable goals and results; build and evolve the GDO performance framework to provide trusted management insight.

Executive Scorecards and KPIs: Own and refine the benchmark framework and executive scorecards to emphasize value, customer outcomes, delivery health and strategic priorities—not activity alone.

Leadership Performance Reviews: Lead performance reviews for the GDO Leadership Team, surfacing trends, risks, dependencies and opportunities to drive clear decisions and actions.

Benefits Realisation and Value Tracking: Establish consistent approaches to value tracking across programmes, services and data products, ensuring benefits are quantified and realised.

Reporting and Automation: Define future reporting requirements and coordinate enhancements to Keystone and related performance reporting for improved quality, usability, automation and insight.

Operating Rhythm and Planning: Coordinate the annual planning cycle and operating rhythm, including Leadership Team secretariat, quarterly performance assessments, medium-term planning and follow-through.

Strategic Alignment and Governance: Drive alignment between GDO priorities and the plans of enterprise partners, preserving clear accountability for delivery within each function.

Operating Model Transparency: Clarify accountabilities across vertical and horizontal teams, including service ownership, interfaces, decision rights, governance and RACIs.

Collaborator and Partner Experience: Develop proportionate collaborator experience measures that inform decisions, using feedback mechanisms where they add tangible value.

Strategic Communications Partnership: Partner with Communications to translate strategy, performance and priorities into clear internal communications, while maintaining functional accountability.

Governance and Customer Forums: Support relevant forums to align priorities, review performance and resolve cross-functional issues, while not taking direct responsibility for external customer boards.

Strategic Partner to Leadership: Provide constructive challenge, data-driven insight and focused execution support to the GDO Leadership Team.

People Leadership: Lead and develop direct or matrix team members, fostering clarity, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Significant senior leadership experience in performance management, strategy, transformation, business management or interpersonal effectiveness within a sophisticated global organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading long-term planning, benchmark and scorecard development, executive performance reporting and benefits realisation.
  • Consistent record to establish operating rhythms, governance, decision rights, RACIs and accountability across matrix teams.
  • Strong analytical and storytelling skills, proficient in translating sophisticated information into clear executive insight, decisions and action.
  • Excellent collaborator management, influencing and facilitation skills, including capacity to build alignment across interpersonal boundaries without assuming ownership for others’ delivery.
  • Experience coordinating annual planning, quarterly business reviews and medium-term planning processes.
  • Ability to simplify approaches to work, resolve ambiguity and drive follow-through in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability and dedication to inclusion, cooperation, and ongoing improvement.
  • Experience in data, analytics, digital, technology, pharmaceutical or shared-services environments.
  • Understanding of enterprise data operating models, service management and the relationship between vertical business ownership and horizontal capabilities.
  • Experience with employee evaluation systems, reporting automation and collaborator experience measurement.
  • Experience partnering with Communications and People teams on strategic engagement, while maintaining clear functional accountability.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience operating in global data and analytics leadership roles within life sciences or other highly supervised industries.
  • Familiarity with Keystone or comparable enterprise performance management platforms and automation toolchains.
  • Consistent record introducing benefits realisation frameworks and value measurement for data products and shared services.
  • Sophisticated training or certification in strategy execution, interpersonal performance oversight, operating model development or portfolio management.
  • Experience crafting and implementing proportionate user experience metrics for internal services, such as NPS/CES, in contexts that chip in decision value.
